When we lived in California, we discovered the most amazing little beach community in Central Coast called Avila Beach. It was just over three hours from Los Angeles, but it was our perfect little slice of Heaven on the West Coast, and we used any excuse we could get to sneak away there for a long weekend.
We returned in February for a few days of rest, relaxation, and of course, wine. While we lived on the West Coast, we were members of a wine club at Avila through the Alapay Cellars winery. Because of the strict Pennsylvania liquor laws, we weren’t able to continue our membership once we moved back east, so we try to stock up on wine when we are in CA and bring back enough to last us.
Alapay Cellars is just a few doors down from our favorite hotel on the West Coast, Avila La Fonda, so we walked up for some afternoon sampling while we were in SLO County. Among our favorites are their Masix and Rebekah wines, although we always find something new to love when we go in for sampling! The staff is incredibly knowledgable about wine in general, and particularly the region and their wines, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. We simply can’t say enough good things about this place!
In the tasting room, in the midst of enjoying some delicious wine!!
