We love dancing. Strangely enough, depsite the fact that we both spent a lot of time going out dancing before we met, it took us a good six months of dating before we actually went out dancing together. And we love it, but what’s weirder is that going out dancing has become one of those things where we say, “Why don’t we do this all the time??” and then still rarely do it.
This year, to help kick our dancing into overdrive, we put two dancing Achievements on the list. The first is a general ‘go out dancing’ Achievement (still haven’t done it), and the second is to more specifically go out dancing somewhere that J Malls is DJing. If you’ve never heard of this guy, I suggest looking up an event he is DJing and checking it out. I swear he and Gordy are the best DJs this city has to offer (additionally, Michael has known them for about a hundred years, but don’t let that make you think we are biased!).
So we got dressed up and headed out to the Shadow Lounge for the Title Town Soul & Funk Party, which is just what it sounds like. If you’ve ever wanted to see a bunch of nerdy white kids rocking out to old soul stuff, this event is the place. Seriously.
I think I’m partial to this kind of dance event because I grew up listening to so much Motown stuff with my dad, but either way, it was an awesome time. It was crowded by the time we arrived, and just kept getting more packed as the night went on. Soooo much dancing!
Dancing before it got too hot and crowded, so our hair still looked good π
Additionally, the Shadow Lounge is one of the best dance/club venues in Pittsburgh. It’s also the location of Michael’s and my first New Year’s Eve together, where we also danced allll night π
More dancing. It is interesting to note that we burned 529 calories each while dancing for an hour and 45 minutes (well, at least I did, as I wore my heart monitor – more of an estimate for Michael), so you can knock out your cardio and get your groove on in one time-efficient event! π
