Well, for our May elaborate meal, we got so elaborate that we added a new piece of equipment to our dinner repertoire: a grill!
Yes, we somehow went almost two full years as homeowners without having a grill of our very own (this ties in with our Achievement about redoing our back patio…), but no longer! We can now grill with the best of ’em!
Here is the inaugural grill lighting, on the day before Memorial Day.
Lucy, who is not allowed outside untethered right now because of our backyard construction, watched anxiously from the window. What were all those flames, and where were those yummy-smelling meat sticks going?
The very first fire in our grill. Michael swears that the charcoal makes the flavor better!
And the flames were getting bigger! Dinner would be coming soon!
Finally, all the meats were on the grill. Those are burgers in the back, and salmon skewers in the front!
And since it’s now officially summer, dinner is to be served outdoors, in our DMB lot chairs. Yum!
My parents were over for dinner too (post-dinner, the men had a ‘beer and bee-killing’ party, wherein they drank a bunch of Miller Lite, and then my dad got up the nerve to spray the ground wasp nest that had taken up residence in our new driveway). Miss Lucy of course had to pose for a picture with her grandpa.
And of course, she couldn’t let her grandma feel left out!
Then it was dessert time, and Lucy sat very, very still for her ice cream. We tethered her to one of the posts on our backyard, and she was so pleased to be able to join the family for our first official barbeque!
